The Madison Avenue Store
We’re excited to share that we’ve opened our new håndværk store at 1225 Madison Avenue — our second retail space after the warm reception in Southampton last year. For us, this feels like a natural next step and a meaningful moment in our journey as a New York–born brand.
From the beginning, håndværk has been about creating timeless wardrobe essentials made with uncompromising quality. We focus on pieces that are understated, beautifully made, and built to last — using the finest natural materials from Italy, Japan, and Peru. Quiet luxury has always been our approach: nothing loud, nothing excessive, just thoughtful design and honest craftsmanship.
The Madison Avenue store is intentionally small. As an independent brand, it makes sense, but it also pushes us to be incredibly intentional. Every detail, every piece on the rack, has to earn its spot. The scale keeps us rooted in our belief that less — when done well — can truly be better.
Our Southampton store played a big role in shaping this decision. Petra and I were genuinely surprised — in the best possible way — by how meaningful it was to meet customers face-to-face. Seeing how they shop, hearing their feedback, and getting to know their habits changed how we think about the brand. Many of those customers live in Manhattan as well, so opening here felt like the natural next chapter.
The Madison Avenue space was designed by our Creative Director and co-founder, Petra Brichnacova. She created a warm, minimalist environment that feels calm and intimate — very much in line with our clothing. Natural materials, soft textures, and furnishings from Frama and Audo come together quietly, inviting people to slow down and discover the collection at their own pace.
“My design process is rooted in the belief that the things we surround ourselves with — whether clothing or interiors — should be built to endure, to be cherished over time,” Petra says. “Growing up in the Czech Republic, I was taught to value what lasts and to live with fewer, better things. The Madison Avenue store is an extension of that philosophy.”
Opening this store is an important milestone for us personally. New York is where the brand started, and being here — in a neighborhood where many of our customers actually live — feels right. Retail has become a key part of how we express who we are.
“For us, this store isn’t just about expansion — it’s about connection,” says Esteban Saba, co-founder and managing director. “Our customers have supported us from the very beginning, and Madison Avenue lets us serve them in a more personal way. It’s a small space, but it represents something meaningful for the long-term future of håndværk.”
We’re approaching growth slowly and thoughtfully. We’re actively looking at Tribeca for a potential third location — again guided by where our customer lives and how they move through the city. Small-format stores that feel warm, intimate, and intentional will continue to shape our approach.
Beyond our own stores and e-commerce, our collections are carried by Bergdorf Goodman, Kick Pleat, Henry Lehr, and more than 100 retail partners around the world. With the opening of our Madison Avenue store, we’re excited to welcome customers into a space that feels true to who we are: a brand devoted to essentials, crafted with care, and offered in an environment that reflects the same quiet elegance as the clothing.
Less, but Better.
